Abstract
본고는 졸고인 민족지(民族誌) 자료「혼(魂, bla)을 불러들이는 티벳 의궤 ‘라구체구’(bla 'gugs tshe 'gugs) —닝마파 전통의 기도서 역주와 의궤 기술—」(『국립민족학박물관연구보고』 2019년 43권 3호, 485-548쪽)의 속편이다. 졸고에서 제시한 정보를 근간으로 하여, 티벳 민간 신앙의 주술성에 대해 이론적으로 고찰하는 것을 목표로 한다. 전반부에서는 티벳·히말라야 문화권의 여러 종교를 개관하고, 라구체구 의례가 어떤 종교적·이데올로기적 위상을 지니고 있는지 티벳학에 대한 지견(知見)과 졸고에 의거하여 분석한다. 후반부에서는 하마모토 미츠루(浜本満)의 주저 『질서의 방법』 (2001)에서 추출된 개념인 의례의 ‘원리적 무근거성’을 해설한다. 또한 프레이저(Frazer)와 비트겐슈타인(Wittgenstein)의 의례론을 거치면서, 프로이트(Freud) 정신분석학의 꿈 가설이 어떻게 라구체구 의례의 주술성을 파악하는 유추(analogy)로서, 더 나아가 주술 일반을 이해하는 체계로서 기능할 수 있을지 검토한다.
This paper is a sequel to the author’s ethnographic study, “The Tibetan Ritual of ‘Recalling the Soul’ (bla 'gugs tshe 'gugs): Translation and Commentary on a Prayer Text from the Nyingma Tradition with Ritual Explanation” (Bulletin of the National Museum of Ethnology, 2019, Vol. 43, No. 3, pp. 485–548). Building on the data presented in the previous work, this study aims to theoretically examine the magical nature of Tibetan folk religion. The first half of the paper provides an overview of various religions in the Tibetan-Himalayan cultural sphere and analyzes the religious and ideological status of the bla 'gugs tshe 'gugs ritual, drawing on insights from Tibetan studies and the author’s earlier research. The latter half explicates the concept of the “fundamental groundlessness of rituals,” extracted from Mitsuru Hamamoto’s seminal work, The Method of Order (2001). Traversing the ritual theories of Frazer and Wittgenstein, the paper explores how Freud’s dream hypothesis in psychoanalysis can serve as an analogy for understanding the magical nature of the bla 'gugs tshe 'gugs ritual and, more broadly, as a framework for comprehending magic in general.
